Dive for a Cure is an inspiring community event to support Australians living with blood cancer by raising funds for blood cancer research.
Dive for a Cure aims to engage with diving communities across Australia to host a diving experience fundraising event and join Phil Malkin and his dream for a future without blood cancer.
The Phil's Dive for a Cure fundraising event was created in memory of a well-respected member of the Tasmanian Dive community and family man Phil Malkin.
Phil passed away after a very courageous and honourable 3 and half year fight with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL).
Phil’s final wish was to hold an event to raise the much needed funds for the Leukaemia Foundation in gratitude for the continued and dedicated support received by Phil and his family throughout the battle.
Phil’s two young children Charlea and Beau, alongside wife Tach will continue his legacy by participating in his last wish – "Phil’s Dive for a Cure", held on the 13th November 2016 at Bicheno, Tasmania.
The day includes a dive, paddle and swim. The day includes a dive, paddle and swim. The dive will be lead by Phil's 15 year old daughter Charlea and 12 year old son Beau.
Each year the highest fundraiser will receive the Phil Malkin award and have their name listed on the website.
All funds raised through Dive for a Cure will be invested in valuable research that potentially saves thousands of lives through advances in medical research and improves the quality of life for Australians living with blood cancer.
The funds from Dive for a Cure will create the Phil Malkin Research Grant to fund a specific research project to find better treatments and hopefully a cure for blood cancer, with a special emphasis on ALL where possible.
